As an animal lover, a strong believer in only using cruelty-free skincare and after years of unsuccessfully convincing my squeamish friends of the healing benefits of skincare with snail secretions, I was intrigued when I read about a Korean brand that had created a vegan snail mucin alternative using yam extract. Hearing the company was dedicated to sustainability in their manufacturing only sealed the deal and I am thrilled to announce they have decided to help me promote this post with a giveaway. The promotion will be on my Instagram from 22 June 2021 to 29 July 2021.

Disclaimer I was not paid of this review or the products I received, but want to support the brand because I truly believe in their philosophy. Any links shared in this post are non-affiliate.

Ingredient Analysis:

Dioscorea Villosa (Wild Yam) Root Extract come from the rhizomes of the wild yam.  The extract contains the plant steroid diosgenin, phytosterols and tannins. It functions as a skin-conditioning agent. Although there are no clinical studies on the topical application of wild yam in skincare, this lab study shows the extract may encourage the growth of new skin cells, and this study suggested it may be effective at decreasing pigmentation.

Panthenol is the pro-vitamin (biologically active precursor) to Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) present in all body cells and plays an essential role in cellular metabolism.  In skincare it functions as a moisturizer and emollient, and is especially useful for calming irritation, relieving itching, healing wounds and treating sunburn.  When applied topically, it attracts water from the atmosphere, reduces water loss, reduces inflammation and helps heal skin damaged by exposure to irritation, including that caused by sulphates.   It can also help with antiaging by increase fibroblast proliferation increasing collagen and elastin synthesis and reducing pigmentation by inhibiting melanin.

Niacinamide, also known as nicotinamide, is a form of Vitamin B3, a water-soluble vitamin that is an important precursor of many oxidation-reduction coenzymes involved in over 40 cellular biochemical reactions.  In addition, it can act as an antioxidant to improve epidermal barrier function, reduce hyperpigmentation, improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, reduce redness, and improve skin elasticity.

Centella asiatica leaf water is extracted from the herbaceous creeper that grows in swampy areas thought out India, Pakistan Sri Lanka, Madagascar, South Africa and Eastern Europe. It is commonly known as Gotu Kola and has been used to exert pharmacological effects in dermatology in the treatment of various skin lesions including burns, excoriations and eczema. It is considered to be an effective ingredient for antiaging and improving skin hydration.

Ceramide NP. Ceramides are lipids (oils) naturally found in the stratum corneum, the outermost layer of the skin, which is composed of dead cells and acts act as a protective barrier. Ceramides are the major structural components of the epidermal permeability barrier. The main function of ceramides within the skin is to control the growth and differentiation of cells when they are in the process of becoming specialized.  Alterations of ceramide content are resultant in several skin diseases like atopic dermatitis. Ceramides added to skincare function by improving the overall barrier function of the skin.

pH Testing:

pH Analysis:

The pH of this product is outside the pH range of healthy skin (range 4.0-6.0, average 4.7). As I prefer to use products that are within this range, I always apply this serum after a low pH toner. Learn why the pH of skincare products is so important here.

Overall Impressions:

I really love that there is a vegan and cruelty-free alternative to the popular Korean skincare ingredient snail mucin. Although only a few studies have currently been done on the effects of Wild Yam Root as a skincare additive, the results are looking promising and with the addition of ceramide NP, five different peptides and niacinamide, this serum has many proven antiaging, brightening and skin barrier benefiting ingredients. Although the texture of this serum is slightly tacky, it felt comfortable on the skin and did not interfere with any subsequent steps in my routine.

Vegreen 730 Daily Moisture Cream

Vegreen Claim:

This is an intensive moisturizing daily cream for anyone, anywhere, anytime, any condition without skin irritation.

Appearance and Scent:

he moisturizer is a white, light-weight, creamy texture that glides on the skin. It is hydrating, yet absorbs easily after a couple of minutes. The fragrance free formula has no detectable scent.

Packaging, Size and Expiry:

The moisturizer comes in a soft plastic tube with a security seal.  The size is 50 ml and the expiry date is 30 months after manufacture or 12 months after opening.

How to Use:

Apply a moderate amount onto face in your last skincare step. Re-apply one to two times to areas that you feel dry.

Ingredients:

Water, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Squalane, Glyceryl Stearate, Polyglyceryl-2 Stearate, 1,2-Hexanediol, Stearyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Arginine, Caprylyl Glycol

Ingredient Analysis:

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is an emollient, skin softening ingredient that is capable of retaining moisture and repairing the skin due to its high fatty acid content.  It also has the ability to enhance the penetration of active ingredients without leaving an oily residue on the skin. It is produced by mixing coconut oil or palm kernel oil with glycerin.

Glycerin is a skin-conditioning agent, skin protectant, and humectant (water binder) that occurs naturally within the skin and assists in the development of immature skin cells. Having adequate amounts of glycerin available within the skin is crucial for those who suffer from psoriasis or non-melanoma skin cancers.

Squalene is a skin-identical ingredient naturally produced by the sebaceous glands and makes up 13% of the composition of sebum along with triglycerides and wax esters. Its function is to hydrate and maintain the moisture barrier of the skin. The amount of squalene naturally produced by the skin starts to decrease from the age of 30. The molecule is too large to be absorbed into the skin, so it is able to form a semi-occlusive film over the skin that prevents moisture loss due to evaporation.  This makes it especially useful for people with dry or flaking skin.

Arginine is considered to be one of the most metabolically versatile amino acids and is involved in several metabolic pathways within the human body.  When taken orally, it has demonstrated several antiaging benefits.  Studies on the topical use of arginine are limited.  It is incorporated into skincare for its antioxidant properties, because it is an essential building block of collagen and because it is a component of the Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) of the skin.  NMF’s are efficient humectants, attracting moisture and playing an essential role in maintaining the stratum corneum’s physical properties, allowing the skin to function optimally.

The pH of this product is just within the pH range of healthy skin (range 4.0-6.0, average 4.7). This makes this a great moisturizer to nourish and protect the skin moisture barrier. Learn why the pH of skincare products is so important here.

Overall Impressions:

The 730 Daily Moisture Cream is a gentle moisturizer that is non-irritating and suitable for all skin types. The fragrance-free formula contains only 11 skin-friendly ingredients. It has a gel-cream texture that is easily absorbed into the skin with a matte finish. I find myself reaching for this a lot because of the clean ingredient list, I know it is completely safe for sensitive skin and will not interfere with any of the actives I use in my routine.
