The I’m From Pear Soothing Pads are a refreshing and soothing pad formulated with 75% fruit extract from pears grown on the Baegun Mountains in Korea, and three different molecular weights of hyaluronic acid. The gentle formula contains no irritating or sensitizing ingredients and helps to calm and hydrate the skin while balancing the skins pH level.

I’m From Claim:

his soothing pad contains 75% of Wild Pear Extract, which delivers rich hydration with plant-based hyaluronic acid. With the main ingredient of pear called luteolin, it features an immediate cooling and soothing effect on irritated skin. The 2.55-inch size pad will make the skin moist and smooth with an eco pure cotton pad, leaving a light and fresh finish. Recommended for flushed skin and sensitive skin that needs cooling & hydration.

Appearance and Scent:

The solution on the pads is a lightweight liquid that is the consistency of water. Once applied, it absorbs quickly. It initially can feel slightly tacky, but this goes away as it absorbs into the skin. The fragrance-free formula has a very faint pear scent.

Packaging, Size, and Expiry:

There are 60 pre-soaked pads in a generous amount of serum.  The pads are vegan certified fabric made from unbleached cotton that are biodegradable in the soil within 20 days. The container is thick plastic, and the jar has a lid to prevent evaporation and comes with a pair of plastic tweezers to hygienically remove each pad. The pads contain 125ml of product and expire three years after the date of manufacture.

Cost and Number of Uses:

The cost is NZD 34.40 or USD $24.00. This makes the cost per application NZD $0.60 or USD $0.40. There are enough pads for 8 weeks with daily use or 4 weeks with twice-daily use.

How to Use:

After cleansing, gently wipe your face in the direction of skin texture, avoiding the eye ara. The pads can also be used as a mask by leaving on the skin for three minutes. For best results, use it together with the I’m From Pear Serum. Apply the Pear Serum first, then follow up with the Pear Soothing Pad. Leave on for 10 minutes before removing to deeply hydrate and soothe skin

Application order:

Cleanser -> Pear Soothing Pad -> Serum -> Moisturizer -> SPF (daytime)
Oil cleanser -> Cleanser -> Pear Soothing Pad -> Serum -> Moisturizer (nighttime)

Formulation Science:

According to the brand these pads were dermatologically tested and found to show a 138% improvement in skin moisture, a 23% improvement in skin redness, an 18% improvement in skin pH and a decrease of 4 degrees celsius in the temperature of the skin.

According to the Withtrend website, the pear fruit extract used in this formula was extracted and processed using “Nano Phyto Cell Grinder” technology. While I could not find anything about this trademarked process specifically, it implies the fruit pulp is blended to a very small particle size that is more readily able to release beneficial compounds that can then be absorbed by and benefit the skin. One of the active ingredients present in pears is Luteolin, a naturally occurring flavonoid present in many fruits and vegetables.  It plays an important role in protecting the plant from UV exposure by absorbing radiation.  Therefore, it is theorized they may also act as a line of defence to the skin as well.   It is reported luteolin has antioxidant, anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects.  Flavonoids including luteolin are currently being trialled as a potential treatment for psoriasis and dermatitis. The review article Luteolin as a modulator of skin aging and inflammation concluded luteolin possesses the significant potential to eighter inhibit or even reverse the signs of skin diseases like dermatitis, psoriasis, assist in wound healing and UV-induced diseases like skin cancer and ageing caused by sun exposure.

Ingredients:

Pyrus Pyrifolia (Pear) Fruit Extract (75%), Water, Butylene Glycol, Methylpropanediol, 1,2-Hexanediol, Glycerin, Propanediol, Hydroxyacetophenone, Sodium Citrate, Citric Acid, Panthenol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Disodium EDTA, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Allantoin, Arbutin

Ingredient Analysis:

Pyrus Communis (Pear) Fruit Extract comes from the Asian Pear and is considered an important medicinal plant that has been in use since prehistoric times.  It exhibits antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer, skin brightening activity.  It is effective in wound healing action and can reduce the development of scars by increasing the cross-linking of collagen fibres increasing the strength of the skin.

Glycerin is a humectant (water binder) that occurs naturally within the skin and assists in the development of immature skin cells.  This means having adequate amounts of glycerin available within the skin is crucial for those who have psoriasis or non-melanoma skin cancers.

Propanediol is a fatty alcohol used as a penetration enhancing ingredient that is also hydrating and leaves a slightly greasy/oily residue on the skin. It can act as a solvent or an emulsifier and can be added to skincare to reduce the viscosity of the formulation.  It can be produced synthetically or by using a non-pathogenic strain of E. coli to ferment corn-derived glucose.

Panthenol is the pro-vitamin (biologically active precursor) to Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) present in all body cells and plays an essential role in cellular metabolism.  In skincare it functions as a moisturizer and emollient, and is especially useful for calming irritation, relieving itching, healing wounds and treating sunburn.  When applied topically, it attracts water from the atmosphere, reduces water loss, reduces inflammation and helps heal skin damaged by exposure to irritation, including that caused by sulphates.   It can also help with antiaging by increase fibroblast proliferation increasing collagen and elastin synthesis and reducing pigmentation by inhibiting melanin.

Ethylhexylglycerin is a synthetic antioxidant derived from glycerine that can soothe skin by inhibiting an enzyme that causes irritation. It also works as a preservative by acting as a surfactant.

Hyaluronic acid and its derivatives offer superior moisturization as the skin-identical molecules are capable of penetrating deep into the dermis and absorbing 1000 times their weight in water.  The lower the molecular weight, the deeper the molecule can penetrate the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt form of hyaluronic acid that exists as a smaller molecular size than hyaluronic acid, is more water-soluble, and is less likely to oxidize. It provides more significant moisturization as the molecule is capable of penetrating deeper into the dermis.  It is ideal for use in skincare due to its biocompatibility, consistency, and hydrophilicity (water-loving nature). Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid has been broken into a smaller molecular size that can be more readily absorbed by the skin.

Allantoin is a healing and anti-inflammatory ingredient derived from urea that exhibits keratolytic action (removes excess keratinized epithelial cells) and stimulates cell division and replication of epithelial cells.  This accelerates the regeneration of damaged skin and allows the skin to retain moisture and rebuild the protective moisture barrier. It acts as a moisturizing agent and is commonly found in skincare formulated for dry skin, acne, or allergies.

Arbutin is a naturally occurring compound found in the dried leaves of many plants including blueberries, cranberries and pear trees.  It is a widely used skin lighting and depigmenting agent that works by blocking the enzyme tyrosinase that is responsible for producing melanin in the skin.  By inhibiting this enzyme, the skin is able to prevent the formation of dark spots, especially following sun exposure.

pH Analysis:

I got a result of pH 4.8. The Wishtrend website does not list the expected pH for this product.

pH Analysis:

The pH of this ampoule is within the pH of the skin (range 4.0-6.0), and close to the average pH value (4.7). This makes this perfect for nourishing and protecting the skin moisture barrier while nurturing the health of the skin and allowing it to heal and function optimally. Results:

I have been only using the Pear Soothing Pads twice daily for the past two weeks, and during that time I have found them to be convenient and effective at soothing my skin, especially when it has been irritated from harsh winter weather. I’m From primarily recommend these pads for cooling flushed or heated skin, so they would likely work year-round for any skin concern. Pear fruit extract, while have been used for many millennia for its medicinal uses, has only recently become popular in skincare, I first encountered it in the TONYMOLY The Green Tea True Biome Watery Essence (you can read my review here). While clinical data on the effectiveness of pear extract in skincare is limited, it appears to be an effective ingredient that is likely to become more popular as evidence to back up its effectiveness becomes available. I also really like products that combine different molecular weights of hyaluronic acids, as this ensures different levels of absorption into the skin. Anyone with sensitive, or easily irritated skin would benefit from this mild formula.

Overall Impressions:

The Pear Soothing Pads are full of gentle, skin-supporting ingredients that are of great benefit for not only those who have sensitive or easily irritated skin but anyone whose skin is under stress due to pollution or environmental conditions. While I do try to avoid disposable pads in my skincare routine, I do find these incredibly convenient for when I want to quickly add hydration in targeted dry areas of my face before I apply makeup. For this purpose the amount of serum makes them stick easily and the large pads cover my checks and forehead sufficiently. The amount of serum in the pads is plentiful and I often find I have extra for my neck and decolletage. I was lucky enough to be given the serum at the same time to try (you can read my review here) and find the two products work synergistically together to really hydrate and soothe my dry and sensitive skin. While these wipes are not necessarily a must-have product in my routine, I will continue to repurchase the serum as I really like the potential benefits of having a pear based product in my skincare routine.
