Ferulic acid is a common component of plant tissues that functions as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-cancer agent. It has a protective role for many skin structures, including keratinocytes, fibroblasts, collagen and elastin, and accelerates wound healing. It is commonly added to skincare for its photoprotective, anti-ageing and brightening and anti-acne properties; however, its use is limited because it is readily oxidized.
